On 24 August 2024, I was honoured to be elected the first female Chairman of Leicester Conservatives after our historic general election victory in Leicester East. Today marks my 100th day in this challenging yet rewarding role.
Leading a Federation that covers three constituencies demands determination, resilience, and sacrifice. Success requires 110% effort. Understanding CCHQ rules, especially Schedule 7/7A, has been crucial. While it doesn’t have all the answers, it provides a solid foundation for navigating complex situations.
Managing a Federation is never straightforward. Each member brings different perspectives, and there’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to handling questions or criticisms. From day one, I’ve embraced a broad-church philosophy, ensuring all voices are heard, even when opinions differ. This approach fosters unity across the membership.
In these first 100 days, I’ve developed a Federation strategy vital for the 2027 local elections. Our goal is to take control of Leicester City Council and unseat Sir Peter Soulsby and his Labour administration. Together with our Deputy Chair Political, we are preparing our 15 current councillors and identifying strong local candidates to contest every ward.
Although the elections are over two years away, early preparations are crucial. The 2024 General Election taught me that success is built on years of groundwork. To replicate our past successes, we must start now. I firmly believe that peacetime campaigning is more impactful than last-minute efforts. It allows residents to see who we are. They can understand what we can deliver as their representatives.
As a Senior Public Affairs Officer, event planning and execution are my strengths. Over these 100 days, I’ve organised two successful events, raising vital funds for the campaign.
Our recent Leicester-style Christmas Dinner was a highlight. It featured Saqib Bhatti MP, Shadow Minister for Culture, Media, and Sport. He is also the youngest-ever president of the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. The event raised significant funds and united local businesses and members to support our goal of defeating Labour in 2027.
I am deeply grateful to my friends, family, and supporters who enable my success. A heartfelt thank you to my partner, Rhys Brown, and my mentor, Baroness Sandip Verma, whose unwavering support helps me be the best Chairman I can be. Here’s to the next 100 days and beyond!
